Is your middle school ready for Spirit Week?

Whatever your middle school’s Spirit Week traditions are, use this annual event as a time to promote school pride, unify the student body, and make fun memories that your middle school students and teachers will cherish for a long time. Here are five fun ideas for you.

1. Dress Up the Doors

Dress up classroom rooms with a door-decorating contest! This is a popular Spirit Week activity and is a great way to show both yourclass pride and school pride. Let every teacher’s homeroom class decorate the door with murals, background paper, gossamer, banners, cracked ice, paint, tissue pomps with pomps paste, and more. Don’t forget to take pictures for the school paper, yearbook, and/or your school’s website!

2. What’s Your Theme?

Theme days are a popular Spirit Week tradition in most middle schools. Students look forward to dressing up each day to match that day’s theme. Try some of these theme day ideas:

  • School Colors Day
  • Beach Day
  • Hat Day
  • Sports Team Day
  • Superhero Day
  • Decade Day (60’s, 70’s, 80’s…)
  • Twin Day
  • Movie Day
  • Pajama Day
  • Formal Friday
  • Crazy Hair Day
  • Tourist Day

3. Lunch Time Activities

Give your middle school students something to do during lunch besides eat. Get them into the “spirit” of Spirit Week with a variety of interactive activities! You can even incorporate ideas from that day’s Spirit Week theme into your lunchtime Spirit Week activities.

  • Karaoke
  • Hula Hoop Contest
  • Limbo Contest
  • Lip Sync Battle

4. The Spirit of Giving

Many middle schools are into volunteering and holding special causes these days. Incorporate these opportunities into your school’s Spirit Week fun. Choose a local charity and see which grade can raise the most money, items, or time for the organization. Consider organizing a Pink Out event to inspire your students and community to help make a difference and raise breast cancer awareness.

4. Have A School Dance

Cap off your middle school’s Spirit Week with a dance for all of your students. Having a dance is a great way to keep your students engaged, and it gives them something to look forward to. Choose a theme for the dance like Glow, Hollywood, masquerade, 1950s, etc. Set up a candy buffet at your dance, offer games, a photo booth or photo ops with lots of props and more. Most importantly, give them plenty of room to dance and have lots of fun.
